1. Minutes of the previous meeting
Everyone received the minutes of the previous meeting and there were no issues to take forward. Action
2. Guests
Avril introduced Maggie Sherrit to the group. Maggie is now overseeing work with the over 50’s in Angus for the Community Learning and Development Service. She is visiting all of the local forums and is also attending the network meetings. Discussions took place about what projects people had been involved in through Angus Gold.
3. Network Update
There was no representative from the Arbroath Forum to the last network meeting, but Avril had minutes and some of the main points were discussed: • The Angus Gold conference normally takes place in October but will now be moved to April in order to come into line with our evaluations. • Some opportunities for guest speakers within the forum including U3A, Adult Support and Protection Act speaker and Mental Health Awareness.
4. Volunteer Gold
Margo Sinclair got in touch regarding putting posters about volunteer gold in and around Arbroath. Volunteer Gold is project aimed to train more people in seated exercise who can then work with older people in their own homes to teach them seated exercise. I have attached an article about the project when it was launched in Brechin. To be discussed further at the October forum meeting.
5. Heartie Thrang Feedback
Janet attended the Heartie Thrang in Kirriemuir during the summer and gave very positive feedback to the group about the activities that she was involved in, archery and singing.
6. Topics for further discussion and action
As our summer break has passed, this is a good time to think about what areas and issues we would like to focus on in the next year. Some ideas for further discussion were: • Looking at Broadband access for all and how to ensure that all older people can access the internet and computer training • Energy Saving and specifically older people using comparison websites to get the best deal on energy. Discussions about what the forum would like to focus on in the next year will be discussed at our next forum meeting, so please come along with all of your ideas in October.
7. Agenda for October Meeting
• Volunteer Gold Information
• Winter Fuel Payments
• U3A – University of the Third Age
• Priorities for the next year for the forum/network
• How to promote the forum and engage new members
• Polypharmacy
