Volunteering
it's never too late to volunteer
A volunteering experience

The Angus Gold 50+ Project provides basic computer training to various Sheltered Housing Complexes, Day Care Centres, Community Halls and people in their own homes around Angus. At present the projects has two tutors who teach around 120 learners per week - which is very demanding, but also very rewarding.
One of the key elements in the project was to build up a good volunteer core that would support the tutors in the various venues around Angus. At present the project has 20 volunteers supporting the tutors in groups or doing one to one in the learners' own homes.

The project is supported by Community Volunteers, Students from Angus College and volunteers from Abbeytext, Arbroath. The volunteers are asked to do a minimum of 2 hours per week where they will shadow and observe the different learning and teaching styles. As volunteers gain more experience in their tutoring role within groups they may move on to tutor individuals in their own homes or lead tutoring sessions in the sheltered housing complexes.
Volunteering with the project gives people a great experience working with the 50+ age group. The volunteers with the project thoroughly enjoy the experience and have a great time tutoring.
There is more information available at Time to volunteer if you would like to get involved.
