Seated exercise class
my joints are not as stiff" "I feel more energetic"
Every Monday morning for an eight week period last Autumn a group of Letham residents met in their Village Hall for a Seated Exercise and Health class. Regular numbers came along each week and their ages ranged from 50-88. Regardless of their age and ability difference everyone managed to take part in the class. The benefits of regular exercise of this type can help people with their balance, co-ordination, muscular strength, flexibility and bone density. Even after 8 weeks participants reported changes including "my joints are much more flexible", "my joints are not as stiff", "my joints seem easier to move" and "I feel more energetic". During the 8 week course there were also group discussions on Falls Prevention, Healthy Eating and Food & Mood. These were lead by the 50+ Project's Health Worker as well as a guest speaker who focussed on how certain foods and drinks can impact on how we feel. The class has proved very popular and the feedback from the participants has been very positive so much so the participants will be starting another programme in 2007.
