For help and information contact any ACCESS Office
There are Joint Community Mental Health Teams who deal specifically with the needs of people with dementia of all ages and people over 65 with mental health problems. These teams consist of medical staff, social workers, nurses, occupational therapists and support workers providing assessment, treatment and access to community care services.
How can I access this service?
CMHTs have an open referral system - all you need to do is get in touch with your nearest team.
- Arbroath - Carnoustie - Monifieth - (01241) 437222
- Brechin - Montrose - (01356) 624771
- Forfar - Kirriemuir - South West Angus - (01307) 465143
Information will be gathered to see if the team can help you - if not you will be told why. An assessment will then be carried out and, after discussion with you, the next steps are planned.
How long will I have to wait?
Ordinarily contact will be made by telephone, letter or in person within 7 working days.
I don't want anyone to know about this. How will you ensure this?
The service is confidential and information may only be shared with your permission, unless there is serious risk of harm to yourself or others. If it is more convenient an appointment can be arranged outwith your own home - perhaps at a Health Centre, Social Work Office, or Out-patient's clinic.
What treatment might I get?
This depends on your assessment and the outcome. But it may include:
-
anxiety management
-
Community Care services
-
counselling
-
medication
-
advice
-
support
What will this service cost?
There is no charge for any service that the CMHTs provide directly. However if Community Care services are accessed for you - such as assistance with domestic tasks, community meals and a Community Alarm - there may be a charge.
Angus Council's charging policy is based on your need and not on your ability to pay. A charge for services will only be made if your income is over a certain amount. A leaflet 'Charging for Non-Residential Care Services for Adults' is available in all Social Work offices.
