As you get older, it is more important than ever to eat well. Good food, regular exercise and a positive attitude all help you get the most out of life. To keep your body in good working order you should eat regular meals, choose from a variety of foods and drink plenty of water. Get plenty vitamin C by eating fruit and vegetables or drinking fruit juice. Citrus fruit, green vegetables, peppers, tomatoes and potatoes are all good sources of vitamin C. Foods containing folic acid also help maintain good health in older age. Good sources are green vegetables and brown rice, as well as bread and breakfast cereals that have vitamins added. Osteoporosis can be an issue for older people and in particular women so make sure you get plenty calcium rich foods - milk, cheese and yoghurt. Calcium is also found in canned fish with bones such as sardines. Quantities may be doubled for two people
Make sure you eat plenty of foods rich in starch and fibre - bread, rice, pasta, cereals, potatoes, oats, beans, peas, lentils, fruit and vegetables.
Eat plenty of iron-rich foods- red meat pulses such as peas, beans and lentils, oily fish such as sardines, eggs, bread, green vegetables and breakfast cereals with added vitamins.To make sure you're eating well and enjoying it, why not try this healthy recipe too.
Citrus chicken

Ingredients
5ml / 1 teaspoon sunflower oil
1/2 onion, peeled and chopped
1 chicken fillet (small)
1 dessertspoon plain flour
1/2 red pepper, sliced
The juice of 1 orange, or 75ml orange juice plus 25ml water
1 small carrot, peeled and sliced
4-6 baby potatoes or 1-2 medium potatoes, cut into chunks
Chopped parsley (optional)
Season with pepper
