Community Occupations Therapy

The Occupational Therapy Service helps children, adults and older people with physical disabilities live in their homes as independently as possible. The service is split into two areas - physical disabilities under 65 years and Older Peoples Services over 65 - with teams based in each Social Work and Health locality office.
Occupational therapy staff will provide a full assessment of the activities and daily living needs of both service users and, where appropriate, their carers. They will observe and discuss any difficulties that service users may be having in carrying out their daily tasks.
After this they will offer suggestions and practical help on how particular problems can be overcome. This could be in relation to dressing, washing, bathing, mobility, feeding, transfer to or from bed, chair or toilet - any way in which the physical disability hinders independence. The Occupational Therapy Service does not, however, assess or issue mobility aids. Your GP or District Nurse Service will do this for you.
