Day care for 24 men and women over 50 with learning disabilities is provided at the Lunan Park Resource Centre within the rural village of Friockheim. The centre serves the geographical area of Angus and is accessed daily by specially adapted vehicles suitable for wheelchairs.
It offers a wide range of recreational and leisure activities, including outings. People seem to really enjoy the smaller, quieter and less structured environment that Lunan Park has to offer. Regular meetings encourage services user involvement in the running and planning of the centre. And skills development, social integration, choice, clients rights, self advocacy and independence are promoted on a constant basis.
Do I have to be 50 before I can attend Lunan Park?
Yes. Research has shown that men and women over the age of 50 are most suitable for this specialist service.
Do you have to have attended another Centre before you access Lunan Park?
No, anyone over 50 is welcome to access Lunan Park - but on a trial basis initially to make sure that it's suitable for everyone involved. Referrals are accepted from Care Managers, Community Learning Disability Nurses, or colleagues who know the prospective service users well.
What happens when I am 65 - do I have to leave Lunan Park?
No, unlike the other Resource Centres there is no retirement age set for Lunan Park. Men and women who attend may do so for as long as the service meets their individual needs.
When I am 65, do I attend Lunan Park full-time as an alternative to my current day care?
Men and women who attend Lunan Park usually do so, one, two or three days a week. The current day place capacity does not allow people to access the service five days a week. An individual needs assessment would help determine how often you should come. And If you do attend another Resource Centre it's expected that you'll leave this service once you come to Lunan Park.
