Keep Safe and Secure
All it takes is a little bit of extra care and attention.
Home alarm service
Contact your local Social Work office at one of the addresses at the bottom of this page
If you are to live independently in your own home, it important that you feel help safe and secure there. To enable you to do this Angus Council offers a Community Alarm Service.
We fit a community alarm in your home using a phone socket. When you press the alarm trigger a signal is sent to the Control Centre at Fairlie House, Kirriemuir. The control operator is then able to speak to you and arrange the help you need. This help usually includes one or more of the following:
- Giving reassurance
- Contacting a relative, friend, neighbour or warden who has a key to your home.
- Contacting your GP
- Contacting the emergency services.
- Sending one of the community alarm response workers to help.
Where and when is the service available?
The service is available to people in all parts of Angus. There are three community alarm response teams - based throughout the area - who are on duty 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Who can receive the Community Alarm service?
Following an assessment of need - which will take a look at your health and social circumstances - we will decide whether or not to provide a community alarm service.
We can provide an alarm if you:
- Have an illness, are frail or have a disability which limits your ability to live at home alone;
- Have been in hospital and need some extra support when you come home
- Have someone caring for you who needs extra support.
If we feel the community alarm could help you to stay at home, we will provide the service and review your needs on a regular basis.
What can I expect from the service?
- We will provide the service in a way that will improve your independence and protect your lifestyle.
- We will provide the service in a way that respects your home and belongings, your privacy, dignity and individuality.
- All staff will work within the standards set by Care Commission Scotland -the regulatory body for care
- Staff will receive training so that they can carry out their role effectively.
How much will the service cost?
Angus Council does not charge for this service. However the community alarm needs to be plugged into a phone socket. If you do not have a phone socket, Social Work will pay to have one fitted - which means you will need to agree to pay the ongoing rental for the phone line. Social Work will also pay for any electrical work needed to provide you with the service.
